EcoRecord

We wanted this design to be a flexible container for all patient health information and be the most eco-friendly medical record possible for both home and office printing. The design of this record attempts to solve an annoying yet relevant issue for home and office printing: unequal usage of the 3 main colors in printing.

This design is minimal in the attempt to use printer toner sparingly without unnecessary clutter and embellishments. For the majority of text on the design, we are using Ecofont, a font specially designed to have very tiny holes in each letter. The holes in each letter result in less printer toner used. Readability is not sacrificed.

The color in the record is intentionally spare and only used for highlighting and drawing attention to key information. The colors have been determined and selected so the 3 main colors in home and office printing, Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow, will be used evenly. With even usage of color toner, we hope there will be less waste when a cartridge is discarded when only 1 color is depleted. We also highly encourage double-sided printing.

If this design is adopted for widespread usage and subsequently printed thousands of times, we hope that this design will make a significant impact in terms of resource conservation. This concept sprung from Hurricane Sandy that ravaged the city I love: New York. Using less is always on my mind, more so now in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
