EmpowerVet
Team EmpowerVet is excited to present our vision of the redesigned VA Patient Health care record. Our focus in this project was centered on information design and layout: how do we redesign the information to be relevant across age group, various injuries/ailments, long term conditions, and keep it relevant for an entire lifetime. Healthcare today can be an emotional roller coaster for all patients, including our Vets, and their caregivers. It should not require super sleuth skills to decipher their own healthcare information. Our ultimate goal is the design and layout of the information for the ease of use of the patient, the caregiver and the medical professional in that order. We also took into account those who have impaired hearing or reading, as well as those where English is a second language (in fact the caregiver may be the one where English is a second language). We hope that our work will be utilized to improve healthcare for all patients, starting with our US Vets.

Totally agreed that design and layout can totally change the way we use and understand information. (Even our own.) I especially like the use of the visual human body, rather than textual for reference. On some of the measurement data I would include color coding and more info-graphic style on important measures. To give an equal visual cue to the user. I am curious if there is any unified or standardized database framework being proposed or in existence for this and other apps.....
