This submission was not to redefine the Electronic Health record but to refine it. Many hours of thought was put into this submission so that its adaptation into current EMR systems can be easy and functional. Key features of this include:

  1. The addition of a photo: This is important as a visual patient identifier to help prevent fraud and the misuse of other people’s identity, especially when patients see new healthcare providers
  2. The addition of a SSN or MRN: By using nationally recognized unique MRN the patient’s information will now be transferrable to any Healthcare organization without the problem of multiple MRN in each healthcare system the patient enters.
  3. Allergies highlighted in the Forefront of the patient’s information: helps the Patient and healthcare provider to know what is potentially dangerous for the patient.
  4. Prescription reasoning: The medication list gives the patient a reason for their prescription so that they will know exactly why the prescriber recommended it. It also holds the prescriber accountable for the choice of his prescription.
  5. The med list has a start and End date: If patients have a question about how long they should take the medication, they could always refer to the start and end date.
  6. The heading of all fields are organizable: This allows the patient or doctors to look at the meds, patient history etc by date, type or any order they so choose. It also allows the user to arrange them alphabetically, making the information easier to find.
  7. Consolidation of sections: The problem list and the plan of care are now consolidated into one section known as the Medical History. It tells what happened to the patient and what was done about it, giving and answer to the problem.
  8. Encounters and providers are consolidated: The encounters are now tied to the provider and the procedure or reason for visit. This Procedure history section makes it easier to track what was done, where it was done and by whom it was done.
  9. Color coding Labs by Traffic signals: This makes it easier for the patient and doctors to recognize which labs are most critical using the universal traffic light signals. Most people will understand the color system knowing that something is wrong even if they do not understand what the lab itself means. The lab system is also expandable only taking up half the page
  10. Easy for Printout: This system was built with the knowledge that the patient’s info will be printed out many times by different healthcare professional (physicians, nurses, dieticians etc), therefore it was built on standard letter size paper for easy printing.
  11. Low graphics: This system was made to be functional not flashy. Adding high 3D graphics and high resolution increases Glitches in processing and time of upload especially when using a national database. This system will be easy to implement and easier to build not requiring the use of much or any flash.
