A strong doctor / patient relationship is key in achieving good health. A critical component to building a strong doctor/patient relationship is through effective communication. Unfortunately, communication is one of the biggest barriers for low income, disabled (sec 508) and non english speakers. Taking everyone into consideration, we delivered the best user experience that not only addresses that target population, but also those that typically are not familiar and do not use such apps, like the elder population.
After speaking with doctors and patients, we were able to discover the biggest questions that helped us create our patient health record.
On the patient side, the 3 most common questions we found that the user wanted us communicate with them via patient health records were
What is this? Why should I care ? What could I do about this?
By being able to answer these questions, in an easy to use format, such as in lab results, we give the user the opportunity to be proactive with their health and provide them the platform to charge of their health.
On the doctor side, we found that doctors are programmed in a systematic way when they first see a patient. They need to be able to get the patient's information quickly and effectively, because they have to deal with many patients throughout the day. Understanding their point of view, we took the tab approach to better help them process the patient's information efficiently.
We also wanted to give a great user experience across the board from a technology perspective so we took responsive design into consideration. Whether on a PC or tablet, the user will be able to access their information from their devices and can also be scalable to mobile. This will not only give a great experience for the user, but fantastic for the government because the cost will be significantly lower since it is a web based application instead of an app based application.
