My Health Record: Easy-to-Navigate, Easy-to-Understand
The design of my submission was strongly influenced by the aesthetic of social media sites (ex. Facebook, Twitter, Yammer, etc.). The minimal design makes use of ample white space for patients or physicians to make notes on the record. Use of grayscale for the text adds differentiation and draws the eye to the important information. Color coding, using bright, distinctive colors, assists with navigation. A navigation pane allows users to quickly find the section they are looking for. Sections are expandable to contain as many entries as necessary, for instance accommodating a long or short list of medications. A sample entry is included in the following sections: Problem List, Plan of Care, Medications, Allergies, Immunizations, Procedures.
Normal and not normal ranges are identified for interpreting lab results. In the attached, a version of the lab results section for females is included; a separate version for males could be created as normal ranges would differ for the sexes. Within the lab results section only the “Your Score” column would be specific to the patient; all other fields would be standard and pre-populated.
My design was based on my experiences as a healthcare consumer and provides patient medical information in a format that is easy-to-understand and easy-to-navigate.
