FreshMed

FreshMed is an electronic health record designed for individuals from marginalized communities who consistently face access, resource, and educational challenges that result in poor health outcomes. In particular, our design focuses on making the EHR accessible to those most often caught in the digital divide: older Americans (65+); racial/ethnic minorities; those without English proficiency; those lacking a high school education; the disabled; and, low income Americans. These populations usually do not have computers at home. Their access to high-speed Internet connections and color printers are very limited. Moreover, they often lack the digital literacy required to use the web for building health literacy and managing their medical conditions. By designing for the most resource-constrained individuals, we hope to offer an EMR format that is more universally legible, printable, and share-able -- a tool that can be used and accessed by the greatest number of users possible.
