I am a Vietnamese citizens, studied 4 years in the US and am currently working in the US. I'm not a US citizen or permanent citizen.
However I owned a company that incorporated in the US.
Am I eligible to participate in the competition ?

I really appreciate it if anyone can answer me since the deadline is approaching. I'm currently working at a med-tech startup as UX/UI designer.

Hi Hoa,
I am looking into the details of your request. With the storm hitting the East Coast, it is difficult getting a response. All Federal Offices in DC are shut down today and tomorrow.
I will reply back to this thread as soon as I get an answer.
Best,
Ryan

If you currently own the company and the primary place of business is in the US, then yes you are eligible.

Hi Nick,
Based on your description, your team is not eligible to win - however, you may still participate and enter a submission.

Who is actually eligible ? Only permanent residents of USA? Why would you want to limit the entries by not making people eligible to win .. in a competition like this ?

The America COMPETES Reauthorization Act of 2010, which provides the statutory authority for running challenges, requires that winners, in the case of individuals participating singly or in a group, be citizens or permanent residents; or in the case of private entities be incorporated in and maintain a primary place of business in the US.

Adam

What documents that are needed to be presented when I submit my work? (In the case of private entity that is incorporated in the US) ?

So if I submit my design, will it be judged or not ? I don't care about winning the prize money..
Adam Wong Manager • over 13 years ago
Yes, the design will be reviewed.

Adam, if a team of students (mostly citizens with a few non-citizens) makes a submission, will the team be eligible to win? Not exactly sure of our numbers at this point, but approximately 10 citizens and 2 non.

Noah and Hoa,
Just wanted to let both of you know that I'm in the process of getting more details to answer your questions.
Thanks,
Adam

Noah,
Is your team planning to compete on behalf of your school, or as an independent team?
Noah Greenberg-Bornstein • over 13 years ago
Adam,
We plan to compete independently, although we are all students from the same Master's program.
Thanks for looking into the issue for us!

Noah,
The team is eligible to be identified as the winner; however, the non-citizens are not eligible to be awarded the purse prize from HHS.

Hi Adam,
Can you enter and win the prize under an H1-B visa?
Thanks

Hi Adam,
Have you by any chance have the answer to my question before I submit my design ?
Thank you

Hoa,
We would need from you the company name, tax ID number, and DUNS number.
Thanks,
Adam
Hoa Vu • over 13 years ago
Thank you for your answer. Is the Tax ID number equal to the EIN number? (in terms of C-corp)
Adam Wong Manager • over 13 years ago
I believe they're the same.
